ActivStudio 3 CD Images

I've had problems installing ActivStudio 3 onto the teacher's PC in the lab with the Promethean IWB:

* All three labs' PCs were replaced earlier this year (May 2011) with 93 HP PCs
* The teacher's PC in lab with the Promethean IWB, ICT3, was written off earlier in December 2010, when we were expecting the new HP PCs to be delivered. I totally forgot about the ActivStudio 3 S/W in that PC, since I hardly used it.
* I assumed that the Promethean IWB vendor was still under contract with Brunei's MoE to do maintenance, but in fact their contract ended last year, 2010.
* I downloaded and tried the new ActivInspire from Promethean, but the driver wouldn't recognise the 9-pin serial connection
* I can't find the USB cable that came with the Promethean IWB to try that connection instead. To my best recollection, I can't remember any such USB cable delivered with the IWB package. To be honest, not really keen on un-attaching the IWB from the wall and buying a new 10 metre USB cable.
* The one ActivStudio 3 CD I found had its Windows Version Installation Files burn session corrupted. I know I never tried installing the S/W after receiving the CD during one Promethean IWB training session. The Mac Version Installation Files burn session was alright though, though I haven't tried installing it. That session image link is included below.
* My school's admin queried to the MoE ICT Dept about this issue and received an ActivStudio 3.5.26 CD (self-copied) from them. However, when we tried to install it, it wanted a serial number, and the CD didn't come with any, nor any readme files with serial numbers.
* So, I went online and looked for a serial number and I found one that worked here.

And now, to help myself in the future and others in a similar predicament, I've included links to both PC and Mac disc images below, hosted on my Box.net account. Hopefully you can download it without having to register or ask for my permission or anything.

ActivStudio 3.5.26 for Windows PC 581MB split into 6 files

AtivStudio 3.0.96 for Mac 130MB split into 2 files

P.S. During the installation of the PC version, if it asks for CD2, you can just cancel that installation. It'll proceed successfully. CD2 is just the library CD for resources and templates. Useful, but not crucial.

P.P.S. The CD disc image files are split into 100MB segments, as that's the maximum allowable file size of my Box.net account. Use any unarchiving utility, like WinRAR, to combine them back.

P.P.P.S After you've installed the PC version, you can update it. Today, 14 Nov 2011, it updated it to 3.7.19 successfully.

Instead of using Simpur.net page, I'm using Seri Qlap Cineplex's own website at qlapcineplex.com. Advantage is that I can automatically get today's movie listings. Disadvantage is that future movie listings are empty. Not that the previous feed was working properly. That one was stuck showing the first day of available listing, due to the page's <td> <tr> structure, which I'm not able to fix. For now, I'm 'happy' with this.

Xcode 4

I bought Xcode 4 yesterday using my Singapore iTunes account. It finished downloading 4.58GB this morning. I installed it and it moved my Xcode 3 to /Developer-old/Applications off the root directory. Xcode 4 installed itself in /Developer/Applications.

I hooked up my iPhone 3GS, started Xcode 4 and Organizer recognised my iPhone after a few prompts. However, it showed that I did not have a provisioning profile.

I pointed Xcode 4 to open up my HelloWorld project I made in Xcode 3, which was successful. Running the project in iPhone Simulator mode was successful but the option to run it on the iOS device was grayed out.

Clicking Run will only pop up the following window 'Xcode cannot run using the selected device':

I closed Xcode 4, opened up Xcode 3 and reopened the same HelloWorld project. Running it on my iPhone was successful, showing a similar screen to what the iOS Simulator showed.

However, now the HelloWorld project has one error which it didn't have before.

This may be the aftereffect of opening the project in Xcode 4. Running the project in Xcode 4 later didn't show any errors. I'll just have to research some more, including how to get a Provisioning Profile on Xcode which I suspect would be the same steps I did to get the Provisioning Profile on my Xcode 3.

If you're wondering why I have this problem, an explanation is when I said I bought Xcode 4.

Well, not exactly a tree, I paid someone to plant it. Well, not exactly, I bought something from some company that paid someone to plant that tree with the proceeds of me paying for that something. Yes, that is it exactly, I bought a Hugo Boss's Element perfume for myself. It had this marketing gimmick that said a tree was planted on my behalf. I scratched the label on the box, got the code into www.hugo.com, and got shown a Google Earth location of my tree. Directions below. Wish I have a picture of my 15-month old tree.

Inconsistency in Savage Opress's Character

Warning: For those that haven't watched Star Wars - the Clone Wars TV Series S03E13 'Monster', you might not want to read further. I tried as I might to be vague, but the show's plot might show through the following words, rendering your enjoyment of the show less than optimal.

In the latest Star Wars - The Clone Wars TV series, which is Episode 13 in Season 3, entitled Monster, they introduced a new character, Savage Opress. I'm probably being pedantic, but I noticed that the artists were inconsistent in this character's character :p. At 18:51, just before his new master sent him of for his first mission, Savage stood with his hands at his back, right fist in left palm. But at 21:13, during that mission's debriefing, now his left fist is in his right palm.

I don't know, but to me, humans tend to be consistent in these small quirks. I tend to have my right fist in my left palm, and when I do a hand clasp, my right thumb is my outer thumb. Trying the opposite just feels weird. So I guess, without thinking, my hands will fall into the former positions.

Now, granted Savage is not human, but as creators of the show, the artists tend to imbue human characteristics into their characters. That's how we can relate to these characters and understand their motives, leading to enjoyment for the show. Here, in Savage's case, it could be either of two things. First, the artists made a mistake in their consistency of character's portrayal. Second, as Savage character 'is not really himself', the personalities in his character might manifest themselves in this slight inconsistencies of his character.

If the second was true, then the artists have outdone themselves again. Showing these 'things' in minor ways is just, nice. I salute you all.

But then again, it might just be a simple case of two different artists doing those two shots.

Adding your local Google News feed to your iGoogle

I use iGoogle as my homepage on my browser. After quite some time using it, today I thought about adding my local Google News feed as a widget. After a bit of time stumbling round, I finally got it, as in the picture below.

Now, if you have iGoogle, then you have a Google account, which is needed. So, if you log into your Google account, Google News can be personalised to your desire. In mine, I have "Brunei Darussalam" news as a section, as in the picture below: Oval B.

To get your own local Google News feed, click on A as in the picture above, and it'll bring you to the page as in the picture below.

Fill in your local area name in the box as highlighted in the oval in the picture above, as in my example in the picture below, and click add.

You'll be brought to a page containing a Google News feed of your local area according to the local area name you used earlier, as in my "brunei" example that brought me a "Brunei Darussalam" local Google News feed as in the picture below.

Now, if you click on the RSS button as shown in the picture above (Safari browser), you'll be brought to the raw local Google News feed as arranged by your browser, as in the picture below. This is the raw data/information that'll be used by the iGoogle widget.

But you just need the URL address of the non-RSS feed page, as shown in the picture below. Copy that URL address.

Go back to your iGoogle page and click on the "Add news, games, and more to this page" link at the bottom of the page, as highlighted in the picture below.

It'll bring you to a page like the one in the picture below. Click on the "Add feed or gadget" link as highlighted below.

It'll expand that section to give you a box to enter the URL address you copied earlier. Paste that copied URL address in the box and click 'Add', as in the picture below.

If the URL address feed processing goes well, you'll get a confirmation message as in the picture below. Now just close that message box (C) and click the "<< Back to iGoogle home" link (D).

Now you've got your local Google News feed widget on the top left of your iGoogle page, as highlighted in the picture below.

You may be satisfied as the way it is but you can edit some things in the widget. Just click the 'down arrow' as shown by the red arrow in the picture above. You'll be offered some options; just click the 'Edit Settings' as highlighted by the red arrow in the picture below.

You'll be offered two options. If you click the 'Display' option list as in the (E) arrow in the picture below, you'll be offered three options on how to display your feed: 'Suggested (Headline only)', 'Headline and lead story', and 'Slideshow'. If you click the 'Stories to show' option list as in the (F) arrow in the picture below, you'll be offered several options on the number of stories to show: 1-9.

If you click (E) above, you'll get the three options as in the picture below. I chose to use 'Headline and lead story'.

If you click (F) earlier, you'll get the nine options as in the picture below. I chose to show five stories, as highlighted by the (G) arrow in the picture below. When you're done, just click the 'Save' button, as highlighted by the (H) arrow in the picture below.

You're edited widget will now be updated, as in the picture below.

Lastly, you may want to position that widget elsewhere on your iGoogle page. Just click and hold on that widget's title bar, as highlighted by the arrow in the picture below, and drag it to anywhere you want on your iGoogle page. I chose to move it to my News column on the right-hand side, as shown below.

I am now in Singapore

I arrived here this afternoon on a SilkAir flight from Brunei. I used my SQ KrisFlyer AirMiles for that flight. Only had to pay B$100+ for surcharges and whatnot. As my row was the last to be served food, there was no option but for Chicken Penne Pasta. Not good.

Once in Singapore, I used my darling's EZLink pass card, one that was still working after being bought a year ago and still had S$17+ value in it. I used the MRT to get to Chinatown on the North-East Line. Then I walked to the youth hostel I'm staying tonight.

It's called FernLoft Chinatown, one of four in the FernLoft Hostels group. They have a website at www.fernloft.com. Its cheap at S$20 net a night. I have the top-bunk of a 10 bunk room. The other two rooms are for doubles at S$60 per night. There's shared shower, toilet, kitchen and laundry facilities. The outside corridor serves as the lounge with wooden chairs and tables, useful and nice as this place is on the first floor. A simple breakfast is included provided by the one and only manager, Auntie Aini.

I found out about this place in Lonely Planet's Feb 2010 Edition. I wanted a cheap place in Chinatown because I wanted to take pictures of the Singapore Railway Station, before it is either renovated or torn down, as Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) will be getting a new station in Woodlands up in the northern part of Singapore. However I didn't get to go there today as I realise I'm not well. I'll probably take those pictures when I get back to Singapore after my trip to West Malaysia starting tomorrow.

Graph Your Gmail Inbox

I found this Chrome extension from Mashable and tried it out. Get it here. You'll need to have the Google Chrome internet browser installed. I have a Mac so I tried it there. Once you got it installed, it'll put its own icon (bar graph in an envelope) next to the wrench icon on the top right. Then just browse to your gmail inbox from your Chrome browser and click the aforementioned icon. A window will drop down from that icon asking you to input the term you want to graph, as can be seen below.

There are several options for terms. Examples given are as below:
* from:facebook
* amazon
* to:some_email_address or from:some_email_address
* label:somelabel
* christmas
I tried out just a simple term 'Japan' as I know that will find quite a lot of my emails associated with it. Which it did, all 249 of them since I joined gmail back in February 2005. Screenshot below.

Quite impressive I'ld say. Just that I don't know how useful this will be to me on a day-to-day basis and because of that, I know how often I'll use this: rarely. Probably only on those occasions when the statistician part of me rears its ugly head :D

Huawei E5830 MiFi

I bought one from a UK based eBay seller for about B$170+. It arrived Monday after two weeks via Post. Paid 5% + $0.30 import duty. ~~Updated~~ Downgraded the firmware to enable access to configure settings via browser, else it would have been thru the Windows based 3 UK branded connection manager software. I set a new DST Go! Broadband profile by just entering dst.internet in the APN setting.

Connection to the internet via USB from my bootcamp based WinXP was fine, as well as via WiFi. Both my iOS 4.0 iPhone 3GS and my sister's 3.1.3 iPod Touch saw and connected to the internet via the unit's WiFi.

The only problem I have is from my Snow Leopard MacBook Pro. Neither a USB nor WiFi connection connected me to the internet, eventhough my Mac 'saw' the Huawei unit. This is the same Mac that hosted the bootcamp WinXP that had no problems with this Huawei.

Strange. Is it settings? Or drivers? But WiFi not seeing the internet! How is that possible?

On a side note, I tested the Huawei using my iPhone's SpeedTest.

Compare that with just a 3G connection a moment later.

Of course, these results will vary throughout the day. For example, below is the result I had earlier this evening using WiFi via the Huawei unit.

All in all, if this Huawei unit works out of the box for my Mac, I'ld recommend it to anybody, but probably not the B$333 price that a shop here in Brunei is asking for.

Update 15:30 Sat 10 July 2010

* First, due to some reading inability, I've determined that I did not update, but instead downgraded the firmware of the Huawei unit. I was following this davidicke site post, where I thought I was upgrading the firmware following the first post. In fact, I downgraded the firmware following post #11 instructions in the same thread. Post #1 was using a PCCW HK based netvigator newer update and post#11 was using a supposedly unbranded/unlocked older firmware based from a brightpointuk site.

Either way, both firmwares will enable configuration settings from a browser. Just that the older brightpointuk firmware will allow change of APN settings (needed if you change to another carrier's SIM card out on the street without a USB WinXP computer connection available, e.g. overseas from your home country), whereas the newer netvigator firmware won't allow you to do that.

* Second, after much thought, tweaking, trials and tribulations, I found out why my MacBook can't get online thru the Huawei unit. In my rush to get it working the first time and not thinking things thru, I changed the DNS settings to ones I knew would work in Brunei, where in fact I used DNS servers from another service provider. I'm an unlimited 3G Broadband subscriber to DST Go! Broadband, instead of the other service provider, bMobile's Zoom! Broadboand, where I assumed it's parent company's (TelBru) DNS servers would work. They definitely didn't.

So when I changed the DNS settings for the relevant connections in my MacBook to using DNS as 192.168.1.1, the unit's default local IP address, they worked. I changed for both the WiFi connection and the USB based Huawei Mobile Connect connection. Lovely. :D

Now I'm a happy camper and I can recommend this Huawei E5830 personal wireless area network to anyone, but probably not at the B$333 price a company here in Brunei is asking for. Cheers

GM iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS

Yesterday I was browsing and I saw on the PCWorld website that the iOS4 was available in the wild. So, what did I do? Yup, I downloaded and installed it. It needed iTunes 9.2 beta which is available on the Mac platform right now. Installation went without a hitch and I found out a new thing about iOS4:

There's a Game Centre where there's a login with your Apple ID. I can't login right now which I assume is because that feature is not turned on yet, probably not until iOS4 is officially released in a few weeks time. Although, they could disable this feature if they're not ready with it yet.

I suspect this feature is like a centralised score / level save centre much like what is available in some iPhone games right now, where they sort of collaborate on saving / retrieving gamers details. An example is OpenFeint.

The original point of this post was to warn you not to do this, and by you I mean to those that jailbreak their iPhones. This will upgrade your baseband and there is no way to downgrade it yet, not to my knowledge. There is an iOS4 image which has the jailbreak image slipstreamed into it already. I tried it after I installed the official iOS4 and I bricked my iPhone. After thinking about it for awhile, I realised that I upgraded my baseband, after I carefully avoided 3.1.3 and have my SHSHs stored at Cydia. I had type 1016 errors and when I tried the official 3.1.3 downgrade restore on an Windows 9.1 iTunes I got type 15 errors and that was after I tried a redsn0w jailbreak. But that, I think, was the jolt the iPhone needed. I finally got the iPhone to restore back to the official GM iOS4 from my Mac 9.2 beta iTunes.

So, don't try the official GM iOS4 if you're on a jailbreak iPhone and don't want to upgrade your baseband.

Adding AVG to IPCop's Update Accelerator

Our school's router, like the other Brunei government schools on SNI (I presume), is IPCop in a Dell box. If you have root access to it, you can add new modules. One useful module I found recently is Update Accelerator. You need to have enabled web proxy to use this. Basically, this Update Accelerator enhances web proxy to cache/store update files for any applications needing regular updating, e.g. Windows and Anti-Virus S/W. By default, it will look up: Windows, Linux, Avast, Adobe & Symantec.

My school PCs mostly use the excellent free AVG, so I wanted it to cache AVG update files as well, which I found it wasn't. So, Google helped me find this page, which referred to this page for early help, and was itself used as an official IPCop wiki here.

That page helped me a lot but to get the Update Accelerator to properly show the AVG icon, you'll have to put one 18x18 pixels AVG icon in the IPCop's /home/httpd/html/images directory, NOT the /home/httpd/images directory as mentioned in that article. Well, at least that's how its suppose to work in my 2.1.3 Update Accelerator on my 1.4.21 IPCop. With that done, I can see this:

Brunei MoE's SNI Project - No Connection Problem

Well, problem at my school at least.

The power in the lab (school even) where the rack is placed is unstable. Though the equipment came with a surge protector, there's no UPS for it. Main thing to protect is the fibre up/down link thingie, the TelBru supplied (password not given to us) Maipu router and the Dell desktop acting as the IPCop router.

I/We often have the problem that there is no internet connection, usually after a blackout, but sometimes, it just happens. There's our intranet but I cannot ping outside. I usually use TelBru's 202.160.8.2 to ping against. Once, we even had no browsing, eventhough I can ping outside, even pinging www.google.com was OK.

I've called MoE ICT and they called ZimacSilicon (the contractors who installed the SNI) people to our school but by the time they came, the network repaired itself (!!!) after a few days. Also, I called up TelBru once and they mentioned that the up/down link fibre thingie should have all six of its lights on with several blinking away. But they also mentioned that they can't remote login into their Maipu Router without a work order from MoE.

So, last week, when my/our internet connection was gone, I experimented with the switch-on order of the three main equipment, i.e. the fibre up/down link thingie, the TelBru Maipu Router and MoE's Dell IPCop router. I found out that this procedure works:
1) Switched-off all the three equipment
2) Counted to 30
3) Switched on the fibre thingie first
4) Counted to 10
5) Switched on the Maipu Router
6) Counted to ten, and
7) Switched on the IPCop.

Then, I had to do that procedure again this morning, which is strange because the UPS log on my local intranet server showed that there's no power interruption since April 5th. I must really find a better automatic solution than this, else, the school depends on me too much.

P.S. FYI, the lab's three air-conditioners have been down since last year, so the lab can get quite hot, even with some windows open. The airflow is just terrible.

Dunbar tells the story of two labs that both ran into the same experimental problem: The proteins they were trying to measure were sticking to a filter, making it impossible to analyze the data. “One of the labs was full of people from different backgrounds,” Dunbar says. “They had biochemists and molecular biologists and geneticists and students in medical school.” The other lab, in contrast, was made up of E. coli experts. “They knew more about E. coli than anyone else, but that was what they knew,” he says. Dunbar watched how each of these labs dealt with their protein problem. The E. coli group took a brute-force approach, spending several weeks methodically testing various fixes. “It was extremely inefficient,” Dunbar says. “They eventually solved it, but they wasted a lot of valuable time.”

The diverse lab, in contrast, mulled the problem at a group meeting. None of the scientists were protein experts, so they began a wide-ranging discussion of possible solutions. At first, the conversation seemed rather useless. But then, as the chemists traded ideas with the biologists and the biologists bounced ideas off the med students, potential answers began to emerge. “After another 10 minutes of talking, the protein problem was solved,” Dunbar says. “They made it look easy.”

Flash <> ASP <> MS Access

This is mostly for my own records and arranging my thoughts.

I 'started' this because I wanted to try it out, plus use it as an additional teaching material for my 7010 CS Students Projects. The idea was to do graphics and interface in Flash, while getting/saving the data into MS Access, via ASP (Access Server Pages). For example, a cinema seating booking system: you see a graphical layout of the seats, click on the seats you want and the system changes the details accordingly. Sounds simple enough, isn't it?

That was until I tried to make a simple test page. I have Flash 8, WinXP and MS Access 2003. To cut things short, I have to set up IIS (Internet Information Services) on the WinXP. And even that wasn't straightforward.

First, requirements:
* WinXP
* Flash (I have 8 here)
* MS Access (I have 2003)

Second, setup IIS.

Third, copy the wwwroot directory somewhere else and use that as your www root directory. I copied it to the root of second partition, which is visible to all users, especially the limited SteadyState users.

Fourth, test your ASP. Very important step. I used ASP Primer test asp page. I copied the relevant code to notepad and saved it as type anyfile with name test_asp.asp into the wwwroot folder. I assume you can get the authorisations working. I still have authorisation difficulties with multiple user accounts and Windows SteadyState.

Note 1: I can only have proper authorisations with an administrator account. Not the optimal solution if I want a student to do this kind of project. I'll have to check out a none SteadyState account.

Note 2: The reason for saving as type anyfile in NotePad is that if you save it as type Text, it'll automatically add .txt at the end of your filename. And then if you change the filename from a .txt to say .htm, .html or .asp in File Explorer, it'll somehow not work as you want it to.

Then make a simple Hello World HTML page with name index.htm and with a href link to that test_asp.asp page, saving it in your wwwroot folder. Then open your localhost page by typing http://localhost/ into your browser. That should open your Hello World page. Click on your test_asp link and it should show "ASP is Working!". Therefore, your ASP is working.

Note that if you try to open that test_asp.asp page directly in your browser by opening its file location, it'll show its contents. That's not what we want to happen.

Fifth, test the Flash's ASP connection. I used something from ASP 101 as an example. First, setup my directories. I made a swf_files folder off wwwroot and an asp_files folder off swf_files. Then, copy the relevant codes from ASP 101 into notepad and save it as type anyfile with filename test2.asp into the wwwroot/swf_files/asp_files folder.

Next, open up Flash and make a document with four Dynamic Text fields on the stage, naming their respective variable names as var0, var1, var2 and i. Format the Dynamic Text fields to your desire. I only increased the font size to 48.

Add another layer, naming it action, click on the first frame and place the following actionscript code in it.

Change publish settings to HTML and SWF only. Publish to the swf_files folder. You should have both the test2.html and test2.swf files in the swf_files folder.

Edit your index.htm by adding a href link to your test2.html page, also noting the swf_files folder.

Open up your Hello World page again in your browser and click on the test2.html link. It should now only show Winken, Blinken, Nod and 3. Now you have the Flash <> ASP connection working.

Note that this is the only way I can make ASP working from Flash. I can't even see any result from Test Movie in Flash.

I've zipped and uploaded my wwwroot to 4shared.

Next Step, probably checking ASP <> MS Access connection.

UPDATE: Tue 27 October 2009

SIXTH I think I'll just dive straight into showing Flash <> ASP <> MS Access working together.

I'll use the example from ASP 101 again. Download its files to your working directory (not your wwwroot) and extract the files into your swf_files directory. Everything will be extracted to an 'employee' folder.

In your index.htm file add another link to the employee.htm file in the previous employee folder. It should look something like the code below:

Save your index.htm file and open your localhost in your browser. If everything worked out fine, you should see something like this from the ASP 101 website, and that shows that your Flash <> ASP <> MS Access connections are working properly.

If you read through the ASP 101 website, you can sort of understand how it works and what it is doing behind the scenes, but there's some disjunction between how the website explains how to do it and what is actually written into its own codes. Small differences but enough to furrow one's own forehead.

END I think I'll finish this post here. If I continue with the explanation for this project, probably I'll start with a new post regarding how to get the graphics of free/booked/unavailable chairs of a cinema to reflect the data in the MS Access database.

Point to ponder: Does one need an installation of MS Access to get the MS Access part working ... hmm

How to enable receiving MMS on the iPhone for bMobile Brunei

You must switch off/on your iPhone to make the settings stick.

This is an egg half-cooked. These settings will only enable receiving of MMS on bMobile. Sending will not work and you'll break your 3G internet capability.

To get to this page, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network

To re-enable back 3G internet, delete the "bmobilemms" from the Cellular Data APN field. This will break receiving of MMS as well.

I only tried these on my iPhone 3G S with O/S 3.1. Don't know whether they'll work on any other iPhone configuration. Got these settings from bMobile shop KB. They referred me to either their HQ in Berakas or their branch in The Mall, Gadong, for much better technical expertise, which I haven't done so. Calling up their 177 will only refer you to their counters. So, if anyone knows how to get receiving MMS as well, do help out. Cheers.

Update 24-Oct-2009

Actually, the two mobile phone companies in Brunei are not playing nice with each other, regarding this MMS interchange. It seems it's ok to send/receive MMS to/from bMobile accounts, but not between bMobile and DST. So, even without the "bmobilemms" in the Cellular Data APN field, I was able to send/receive MMS with other bmobile accounts, even non-iPhones.

My IPCop Machine

Well, actually the school's. The school's webcache appliance died earlier this year and I've been playing with DD-WRT on an old LinkSys WRT54G. DD-WRT is good. Recommended.
Now SNI (School Network Infrastructure) is upon us and that will use an IPCop machine as the router and firewall. As the MoE's IPCop machine hasn't been successfully installed yet, I took it upon myself to learn how to set-up such a machine.
I scavenged an old written off Compaq Pentium III and got two more NICs (Network Interface) from another two similarly out-of-luck PCs. Installed IPCop on it and it came alive last Friday. Other than three mistakes: DNS server address, the Orange IP address and the Orange Card to Moodle Server required cross-over cable, the installation has been OK.
One thing I need to find out is how to get a Net Filter working with IPCop. IPCop should be a good firewall but it seems not to have a Net Filter component. I need it for the school, because this is a school after all. Must protect the students from those certain websites.

Two school computers infected with malware

As listed on another site, I could only bypass this malware by making new limited user accounts. McAfee can't clean the system properly and I really couldn't afford to spend more time on this, so I asked the DP(A) to call in the vendors. Besides these two computers, one staff computer wouldn't boot-up, possibly PSU failure, and another staff computer has a virii (I think) which three AV: ClamAV, Avira and Avast can't seem to get rid off. I've really been out of this AV business for a long time. My tools and skillz are really outdated. :(

Anybody knows how to get this working?

I've always hated Compaq screws :@
This morning our intranet webserver was found to be down. No power. Suspected PSU. Replaced with one from a written-off similar unit. And I took the opportunity to replace the screws as well. I took them off a written off Win95 unit. Picture shows the offending Compaq screws, the 'new' PSU held in place with the standard screws and the much used 'tool' to unscrew the Compaq screws, which will follow the way of their makers...
